Among the Bizen Osafune smiths of the late Muromachi period, who were collectively referred to a Sue Bizen, the Sukesada line was the most prolific. This superb piece shows a strong jigane mixing chikei and excellent kitae. The hamon is bright and incorporates a broad suguha with small nie and faint kinsuji. The accompanying koshirae likely dates from the late Edo period, ands adds a grandeur complementing this small work.
