Yagyu tsuba originated with the fourth generation head of the Owari Yagyu family, Renya, who ordered the production of tsubas which best met the Yagyu fighting techniques. This tsuba features a triangle and star motif which relate to the three teachings of Buddhism around virtue, mind, and wisdom. These three elements "Sangaku" also formed a part of Yagyu training.
