Umetada Shigenari had the given names Shichizaemon and Tachibana. He was active in Kyoto, but also lived in the Shibakata Monzencho area of Edo to serve the Shogunate. Together with Kunenbo citris fruits, the grape motif is one of the signature designs of the Umetada School. This work shows a depiction of grapes with inlaid gold, silver, and Shakudo on a brass base, and exhibits strong design influence from the Rimpa School of painting.
