Yokoya Soyo was born in Edo in 1700 and later became the adopted son of Somin, subsequently ascending to the head of the Yokoya School at the age of 34.While works by Soyo tend to be Katakiribori on a polished Shibuichi base, there are rare examples of Takabori Iroe with inlay on a Shakudo Nanako base.
This elegant piece is a unique example executed in Takabori Iroe with inlay on a Shakudo Nanako base and reflects the remarkable skill Soyo acquired from his teacher and master Somin.
