Enjo Mitsutaka was the eldest son of Goto Jujo Mitsumasa, the 12th generation head of the Goto family. He was born in Kyoho 7 (1722). When his father, Mitsumasa, passed away in Kanpo 2 (1741), he succeeded him as the 13th generation head of the Goto family and changed his name to Shirobei Mitsutaka. His works faithfully inherited the traditional artistic style of the Goto family.
This work is executed on a Shakudo Nanako Ji ground, featuring a fish- themed design in Takabori. The skillful arrangement of Shakudo, copper, and Kin-Iroe creates a superb composition while fully preserving the refined dignity and elegance characteristic of the Goto family.
