Goto Kyujo Mitsutada(Koran) was the son of Jujo, the fourth master of the Shichiroemon branch of the Goto family. He was born in Kyoto in the third year of Bunka (1806), and his brothers include Mitsuhiro and Ichijo. He would go on to become the 5th master of the Shichiroemon branch family, and assumed the Hokyo designation before passing away in the first year of Meiji (1868). This excellent piece draws inspiration from old Goto work, and the fine detail in the kimono wear and basket attest to the remarkable level of Mitsutada’s skill.
