Hojo Mitsuakira was born in 1816 as the third son of the 15th generation mainline Goto master Shinjo Mitsuyoshi, and ascended to the 16th generation master in 1835 with the retirement of his father. He passed away in 1856 at the age of 41. He is regarded as one of the most skilled masters of the Goto School since the 12th generation head Mitsumasa. This piece is a remarkable depiction of autumn grasses in moonlight executed in a s Shibuichi Nanako base, well attesting to Mitsuakira’s outstanding skill.
