Genchin, the founder of the Furukawa School, first apprenticed as an accessory craftsman before studying under Yokoya Somin. Jochin was the son of Genchin and there are many examples of Kozuka from both executed in polished Shibuichi with Katakiribori and Kebori engraving. This piece is rare and valuable work with Shishiaibori on a Shibuichi Ishimeji base incorporating colored inlay to depict a traveling puppet performer.
