Harunari with the eight head of the Hirata family which was founded by Hirata Donin and exemplified craft of the Momoyama period with fittings incorporating cloisonne. Works by Harunari incorporate a range of techniques. Later in the Meiji period, cloisonne techniques of the Hirata family were used in the production of government medals. This piece incorporates takabori inlaid metals on a polished shibuichi base to depict the god of longevity. The reverse shows a crane remarkably executed with katakiribori and kebori. This work is an excellent example of Harunari's skill and the Hirata tradition.
